Hand taps, manufactured from either carbon alloy steel or HSS are available individually and in sets of two or three units. Machine taps are manufactured from HSS-E material as standard and are sold individually, with either spiral point geometry for through holes or spiral flute for blind holes.

Together with the development of cutting technology, taps are getting more and more important. With consistent cutting and reliable performance, Yamawa taps answer the diversifying needs of users and their period.
Spiral fluted taps.
With high cutting performance, the taps eject chips smoothly. They can cut threads all the way to the bottom of blind holes.
They are recommended for blind hole tapping. The spiral flutes enable the tap to pull up chips out of the hole and leave no chips in the hole bottom.
They are most suitable for blind holes of sticky materials. Having high cutting performance, they show their superiority in such interrupted tapping as the tapping in the hole with key grooves.
Spiral pointed taps.
These taps have the spiral flutes which enable them to push forward chips out of hole.
Consistent thread cutting becomes available with these taps.
With left hand spiral flutes, these taps push forward the chips out of hole, most suitable for blind holes. The whole body of the spiral pointed taps is quite tough and consistent tapping is obtained from these taps.
Having the longest history on tap, Hand taps are the straight flute taps. Due to the toughness at cutting edge, Hand taps are suitable for hard materials.
They have 3 types, taper tap, plug tap and bottoming tap depending on chamfer length.
Depending on tapping condition, there are two cases in usage, the use of a set tap and the use of individual tap.
Since chips remain in the flute in very minute shape, Hand taps can be used for both blind holes and through holes.
Thread forming taps
With no cutting edge, can produce internal threads without chips.
These taps make threads by deforming the materials and do not produce chips. They are suitable for the blind holes of rather soft material. Thread forming taps do not have flutes for ejecting chips but may have grooves for smoothing oil supply. The feature of the formed threads is their toughness and their little looseness in pitch diameter.
In the joints of pipes and pipe shape parts, these pipe taps are used for only mechanical joints purpose.
In pipe taps there are two types, taps for parallel threads and taps for taper threads. The first cuts the parallel threads which are used for mechanical joints. The second cuts the taper threads which are used for pressure type joints such as water pipes and gas pipes.
High Performance Taps
High performance series only realized by Yamawa's No.1 technology. Tappings become possible in ultra high speed and ultra tough condition with Yamawa's high performance series.
HF series for ultra high speed cutting. Having strengthened and less run-out high precision shank, such ultra high speed cutting as is 5 times higher or 10 times higher than previous cutting and is required of CNC machines of high performance and high precision, became possible. With special design most suitable for that tapping condition, HF series have realized a long tool life as well.
Paying special consideration to ISO14001, HD series made possible the consistent cutting under such severe cutting condition as Dry tapping or Semi-dry tapping. With the surface treatment featuring anti-wear and anti-welding, HD series have realized high precision and high tool life.
Cemented carbide taps
The material is ultra micro grain carbide featuring anti-wear and high toughness.
Carbide taps are suitable for machining the products of large lot and the product of continuous machining. And these carbide taps are quite tough and have high resistance feature.

Standard dies to cut external threads.
Adjusting screw enables minute adjustment in the size of external threads.
This die has adjusting screw in the slit portion. With the adjusting screw, the size of external threads can be adjusted minutely. These dies are most popular for cutting external screws and can be used both by hand and by machine.
One of general dies to cut external threads. Suitable for heavy cutting.
Different from adjustable dies, solid dies have no slit and cannot adjust thread size.
Size adjustment is not necessary. Easy for preparation and suitable for heavy cutting.
In Japan adjustable dies are popular, however, in overseas solid dies are more widely used.
Chip rooms are slantly located. Suitable for threading in hard-to-machine materials.
Slantly located chip rooms bring about good cutting performance and good chip ejection.
In right hand screws, in high efficiency left hand spiral chip rooms push chips forward and right hand spiral chip rooms pull chips in.
Spiral point dies
General round dies to cut external threads. Suitable for heavy cutting.
A part of chamfer portion is ground off to make a spiral pointed flute. Same with spiral fluted tap, chips, being pushed forward, do not cause the troubles caused by chips.
Pipe dies ( for taper threads, for parallel threads )
Pipe dies cut threads to be used for pipes and pipe parts.
Pipe dies are used for cutting taper threads and parallel threads. For cutting parallel threads, adjustable dies are only available.
Dies for auto lathes
Solid dies for auto lathes. Superior in cutting performance and good in durability.
Because of smaller OD and smaller thickness of dies, the rotating vibration during high speed cutting is little and the stable cutting of external threads can be obtained. Even under severe cutting condition, solid dies have little worry about instability.
There are two types, BR series for brass and ST series for steel.
Can produce small external threads of high accuracy without chips.
Rolling dies are thread forming dies used in auto lathes to manufacture such small screws as for camera and wrist watches. 3 thread rollers installed in 1/3pitch difference among each roller produce threads by material deformation. Because of no chips, rolling dies have no chip trouble and produce the threads of high accuracy and good surface.

Yamawa center drills have the flute wide enough to accommodate above chips and special enough to eject chips out.
Yamawa center drills have the cutting edge on both end and have spiral flutes. They have the good chip ejection and lessen the breakage caused by chip clogging. Considering drill strength, Yamawa center drills minimize the drill length, and have R within the back taper at connecting point to supplement the disadvantage of strength at the connecting point.

Drills suitable for positioning. Realizing simultaneous processing, centering and beveling, these point drills greatly decrease the processing time for centering. Yamawa shortened the time from centering to tapping by about 5 seconds by using Yamawa point drills. This means to shorten more than 1 hour in the process of 1000 holes.
Used for beveling of round hole, beveling of installing holes for small saucer type screws and bolts and beveling of flutes.
Countersinks are used to beveling of round holes, beveling of installing holes for small saucer type screws and bolts and beveling of flutes. Having specially designed cutting edge and flutes, Yamawa countersinks have little vibration and second burs, and can make the stable and high precision cutting with clean surface.

NC starting drills
Excellent capability of chamfering for positioning even on curved face and slant face!
Due to the special design to strengthen the body, stable positioning and beveling of high accuracy become possible. They are good in taking up the material, and work well in curved face and slant face which are said to be difficult to cut.
We have the type applied by TiN coating which is superior in wear resistance.
